Three teenagers stopped on route to Syria
Turkey sends teenagers back to UK after Syria attempt

Three teenagers who were stopped from travelling to Syria from Turkey have been flown back to the UK and arrested, Scotland Yard has said.

Two boys aged 17 from north-west London and a man aged 19 were returned to the UK on Saturday night, the Met said.

They have been arrested on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts and are being held at a police station in London.

They were reported missing on Friday and were detained after UK police alerted Turkish officials, it added.

Scotland Yard said counter-terrorism officers had initially been made aware that the two 17-year-old boys had gone missing and were believed to be travelling to Syria.

Further enquiries revealed they had travelled with a third man, police added.

"Officers alerted the Turkish authorities who were able to intercept all three males, preventing travel to Syria," a police spokesman added.

They were returned to the UK at about 23:10 GMT on Saturday and were arrested by counter-terrorism officers

'Security cooperation'

The trio had flown to Istanbul from Barcelona, in Spain, a Turkish official told the BBC.

The two 17 year olds were stopped at Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen airport by Turkish authorities acting on intelligence provided by British police about the pair.

However, the 19-year-old man was only detained after being questioning by Turkish police, the official said. He was also arrested at the airport.

"This is a good and a clear example of how the security cooperation between Western intelligence agencies and Turkey should work," the official added.

BBC correspondent Andy Moore said the development came after "recriminations" between UK police and Turkish officials following the disappearance of three London schoolgirls.

Shamima Begum, Amira Abase, both 15, and Kadiza Sultana, 16 - all from London - took flights to Istanbul last month, from where it is feared they travelled to join Islamic State (IS) militants in Syria.

Their disappearance led to criticisms from Turkey's deputy prime minister, who said officials in the country had not been given enough warning about their disappearance.

"On this occasion it seems that the warning was raised in the UK and that was communicated very quickly to Turkey," our correspondent said.
'Need to be vigilant'

It comes as a fourth missing schoolgirl - who was a friend of the three London schoolgirls - was named as Sharmeena Begum.

The 15-year-old, from Bethnal Green, is thought to have left the UK ahead of her friends in December to join IS militants.

The Home Office says there are about 600 Britons "of interest" in Syria.

The BBC understands about 100 Western volunteers - including some Britons - are fighting as part of the 30,000-strong Kurdish forces against IS, while more than 500 Britons are believed to have travelled to join IS militants.

Labour MP Keith Vaz, chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee, welcomed the action taken by the Turkish authorities, adding: "We need to be vigilant. Clearly this flight of young people to Turkey in order to go to Syria is on a much larger scale than we envisaged."

Religion of Peace is a political neologism used as a description of Islam. After the September 11, 2001 attacks, some Liberal apologist politicians described Islam as a "religion of peace" in an effort to differentiate between Islamic terrorists, Islamism, and non-violent Muslims.

Where did this "Religion of Peace" quote come from? Be interesting if anyone would say or claim this today - but perhaps they delusionally do

I see that the 'Religion of Peace' has struck again, this time with an atrocity in Tunisia

Very obvious point which only just struck me. The kids in both cases are (as always) described as "A-grade students", but education is so crucial to them that they abscond just as we are about to enter the exam season.

BS designed to convince the public these are just ordinary, wholesome families just like yours or mine.

"I met with the two families as well and you could not meet a more normal family."

Jesus, he'd have a field day with MY family - one retired schoolteacher, one retired businessman, one child doing process improvement, one doing systems administration, 3 cats and 1 dog.

I just want to help too, so I'm off to help the pirates off the coast of Africa.

Of course they weren't radicalised .... they got caught.
I like this new morality. Do what you like and when you get caught you just say THANK GOD YOU GOT HERE AND SAVED ME. CAN I GO HOME NOW.
And everyone shakes hands and leaves it at that.

The leader of Brent Council, a Mr Butt. How naive (or assuming of the publics naïveté) fo you get?

The politician, who has been council leader in Brent since 2012, said he believed they had been 'caught up in emotions' rather than radicalised.

He said: 'Personally I don't think they had been radicalised, absolutely not. I think what they've done is they've been caught up in emotions as such.

'They were looking for a platform to speak up or to say something and they haven't found a space or a platform where they can have a grown up conversation about events in Syria.

'I met with the two boys. I met with the two families as well and you could not meet a more normal family. The two young kids they are grade A students and both of them have aspirations, one to be an engineer and one to be a doctor.

'It just beggars belief these guys got caught up in their own thinking as such, of trying to go out there and do some good. All they've said from the conversations I have with them is that they wanted to go out there and help.'

Very interesting report from the leftie's own bible, the Guardian, which admits that there actually is an issue:

Sikhs don't exactly integrate. Their religion and culture is a natural barrier. But there isn't the hatred that muslims feel for us.

Re: Three teenagers stopped on route to Syria
Of course there are a lot of losers - particularly gingers, unsurprisingly - who are drawn to extremism. But the religion, or rather, salafist strain of it, that gives them the toolkit in terms of belief, sense of grievance, duty to carry out terrorist acts etc, that energises them. As I said before, plenty of saddos liked the Smiths but Morrissey didnt provide them with the justification to kill people.

We have not had to help sikhs intregate, they've been more than capable of doing on their own.

Some people can't be integrated. They are losers by nature, hence them spending their time on jihadi bride.com and other such websites, for losers.

If by 'help them integrate', you mean someone should have chucked one up them, then I'll vote for Jibbers.

SS might not be here to defend them but he is a massive apologist and that's just as bad.
These 'kids' have had untold opportunities, ones that were never available to their parents from Bangladesh, Pakistan or where ever and yet with all the benefits this country has to offer their religion can still turn them against us.
Their backward religious views seriously need watering down sharpish because it's clear things are not getting better.

WE need to help THEM integrate? I don't see the big public outcry to helps Sihks integrate, or Buddhists. There's a common theme there, and it seems to be they can't integrate anywhere in the world, and certainly don't let other religions integrate in places where they have strongholds, look into Egypt to name one of a number.

Fair comment tle.
You misunderstand me. I'm not here to defend people.
I'm trying to make people realise that these, and the Bethnal green 3, are children who feel so disenfranchised with uk society they are left open to radicalisation. These are the people we need to help and look at how we integrate them into society as we can't be doing enough for this to keep happening.
